2012 Transit of Venus in Space Engine and Stellarium Astronomy Software

June 5-6, 2012 will be your last chance to see the Transit of Venus until the year 2117! In this video, using astronomy software Space Engine and Stellarium, I do my best to explain what a transit is, why it happens so infrequently and simulate what it will look like from various locations across the world. Much of the information here was found in Dr. Phil Plait’s Bad Astronomy blog post about the transit, which also includes links to many online livestreams of the event: Thanks for watching! Stellarium Sky Tour – May 2012 – Galaxies & May 20th Annular Solar Eclipse

My name is Kurt and I’m back in Stellarium for what will be a regular series on interesting astronomical sights and events you can view each month! In this video we take a quick tour of popular springtime objects, including many galaxies and some early views of summer observing targets. The planets Venus, Mars and Saturn are dominating the night skies and always worth taking a look at. On May 20th at sunset there will be an annular solar eclipse visible from the US, favoring those near the west coast. Information and maps for the May 20th eclipse: Get your solar eclipse glasses and support Astronomers Without Borders here: Stellarium is a free open source planetarium software available for Windows, Mac and Linux. It shows a realistic sky, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope from your location. A question about 2012?

When is the Venus transit of the sun due to occur that year?

I could look it up in stellarium, but I’m lazy and I figured the few who are actually into astronomy here could use a break from the regular 2012 crap 🙂
kumorifox: Thanks bro

James: What does the bible have to do with this?

Jase: Yeah, there should be some good games. But I don’t know about that logo…
