If something profound will indeed happen in the 2012 Mayan prophecy?

Would you want it to be proof/news of the existence of a great afterlife…or not?

Just look at the way the world is going, and it’s more likely every day that something profound WILL happen in 2012.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I don’t think that the Mayans so much prophesied anything as that they … well, just ENDED their calendar in 2012.

All that aside, though, on to answering your question: I figure that I’ll find out sooner or later about the afterlife, so I do not think that I would need 2012 to be any kind of "proof". If what happens is what everyone thinks is going to happen, then we ALL will find out about the afterlife; if it starts in 2012, then we’ll know, and if it DOESN’T start in 2012, we’ll all still know (or NOT know, as the case may be).

In either event, we’ll be dead, though, so there’s no real difference.

Meh, all prophecies are B.S. so it doesn’t really matter.

it wouldn’t hurt having some sort of evidence for what i think is true. in fact, if i thought nothing in this life had likelihood of being right, then how would i prepare for my future?

I would want it to be world peace, free education and health care for all, no hunger, no hate. A world where everyone was happy.

Maybe the Mayan have proof and they wrote it down somewhere put non Mayans can’t translate it until the afterlife.
It would be nice to know.

Most people don’t believe in it and , of course, only proof will change their minds…I think it’s a good thing to believe in something and not to ask for proof ( which doesn’t exist until 2012) , but nobody shouldn’t forgot to live because of it.
Still, I would like some news about it.

What I want to it be is irrelevant, really. What it’s likely to be is an enormous anticlimax when nothing happens.

Wonders of anthropology!
The Mayan calendar was extremely complex, and since it was created with such a different mindset than the Gregorian calendar, it’s impossible for most outsiders to grasp. I haven’t, but I do know this much: the calendar works in circles. There are cycles every set period of time and there are bigger ones and smaller ones. 2012 is not when they predicted the world would end (why believe ’em anyway?), but instead when one of the bigger cycles will start over, which happens on a smaller scale all the time according to their calendar. IN SHORT: Nothing will happen. The Mayans themselves would essentially tell you that if they were still around.

In our narcissistic arrogance we keep believing that a sign of the times and evidence are due to us. The heart of faith is to know that without evidence or proof, this life is to be lived without such events. Each generation predicts that the end of all time, the end of the world is upon us.

There is a far greater event coming. It is now. It is already here. It is the test of whether we can live our lives with generosity and forgiveness, and create heaven on earth before we are gone. Someday is never coming. Someday is an illusion. There is nothing to wait for.

Maybe the Mayans whose civilization rose and fell, were predicting the end, but didn’t realize that the very act of waiting is the end itself.

Is there life after death? Yes there is. Life cannot be destroyed. It is energy which merely changes form. We don’t need proof. We just live. Death will bring what it brings. What we believe or think makes no difference. It just is.

Why wait and wonder about death and what comes after it? We are alive. Enjoy and use this life fully. Now, and now and now…
