How much does a student in Aarhus and Horsens, Denmark spend per month roughly?

Like excluding accommodation, how much would be enough to survive? Though some info on accommodation also appreciated. Is 300 EUR per month enough? Given that you don’t cook your food but buy ready stuff instead. I’m planning to study in VIA University College this spring 2012. I’m not sure if I am going to Arhus or Horsens, or any other place the university has a campus in for that matter. Your input is very much appreciated. Take care 🙂
I think I probably going to Horsens, not Arhus, so yeah its Horsens
Thank you so much guys, you are making my life so much easier. And you could make it even much much more easier if you could answer the following questions as well.

1) I am planning to feed on McDonalds and frozen stuff bought from the supermarkets. I’m not a party animal, nor am I expecting to have much fun there. So considering all that, just in terms of survival, how much of that 300 EUR would I be able to save for accommodation expenses, if any.

2) And can you also name approx accommodation costs of both on campus and off campus housing (incl. electricity, heat, etc.)

3) What about transportation costs?
Sorry for wasting your time, but your answers are incredibly invaluable to me. Thank you!!! 🙂

If you exclude the basics rent, heating and electricity, then 300 EUR is plenty, depending on what you want to do. it works out at about 75DKK per day for 30 days, coffee 10-25DKK that’s a couple of beers, or a meal at McDonald’s, Eating out is not cheap, pre cooked food again is not cheap. better to use some of the time you have until you come here to learn some basic cooking and do it yourself. Pasta is cheap, I can (on a bad day feed my family of 5 for just over 25DKK, pasta, sauce and cheese with some left over)

Campus accommodation goes quickly you will need to make sure you have your name down quickly. Good luck and have fun

Edit as above 300Euro works out at about 75 DKK per day that a bit more than a bigmac meal. I think its about 60DKK frozen meals can be cheap but you don’t get much, anything from 15 to 30DKK per meal. so at those prices one big mac meal and a very cheap frozen meal that’s all your money gone for the day.

You may be able to get some cheap housing away from the town. but that will add to your travelling costs. (that is cheap in terms of the prices in Denmark) Some places include heating and electricity but not all, you need to ask when looking at the property. they will also require basically four months in advance ( deposits and advance rent). I know nothing about campus prices you have to talk to the UNI about that.

As for other expenses then you are not going to make it. I don’t think you really understand how expensive thing are in Denmark. here is a site that gives you some average prices,

Hi Nick

I would say that you would be able to survive fine for 300 EUR per. month. Many danish students don’t have that much each month.
